Dr. Elizabeth D. Samet is a professor of English and a department academic counselor in the Department of English & World Languages at the United States Military Academy in ˮAV˵, New York.

She is the author of several books, including Looking for the Good War: American Amnesia and the Violent Pursuit of Happiness (winner of the American Philosophical Society’s Jacques Barzun Prize) and Soldier’s Heart: Reading Literature Through Peace and War at ˮAV˵ (winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Current Interest). She has also edited three books, including the Library of America’s two-volume collection World War II Memoirs.

Samet's honors include a National Endowment for the Humanities Public Scholar Grant, a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Hiett Prize in the Humanities.
